Segments

NEWS NAMA

This is the main news segment which is broadcast at 3:00 pm every Saturday and Sunday. Basically it contains the news related with Pakistan. Newscast is compiled with the audio insertions from the world wide news sources including BBC, VOA, CNN, ABC, Radio Pakistan, Ptv, GEO, ARY, etc. Beside main news, News Nama is further sub-divided into Sports News, Culture News, Local News and Financial News. Depending on the circumstances, some times there is live coverage either international or local. For instance, During the Earthquake in Northern Pakistan in October, 2005, there were live reports from Azad Kashmir, Balakot, Islamabad and Abbotabad and News Nama was almost one hour long.

NEWS VIEWS

This segment is a kind of radio editorial/column which covers any particular issue in the current news in that week. It is written and narrated by Saleem Syed every week and airs on Sunday after news. Topic varies from political, religious, moral, cultural to some times local. Writer picks up an issue and gives his opinion on it, describing the positive and negative impacts and then ask the listeners to give their feed back about the issue. Some times issues are hot, touchy and very sensitive and become controversial but are dealt with very calmly. A kind of blunt commentary make this segment very popular and interesting among the audience. News Views is always followed by a song, generally making a link to it.

AAP KEE RAEY

This segment is directly related to the News Views. Once the News Views is done, listeners are asked to give their point of view on the subject thru live calls-in. Callers do not have to agree with the opinion given in the News Views. Some times callers agree and disagree even with each other but in a very civilized manner and that is the beauty of this segment. This segment provide them an opportunity to express their feelings openly about political parties, Pakistani government, American administration, against different systems, domestic and world politics. To give them more freedom, callers are not forced to call out their names. Keeping in mind that politics is the most favorite area of interest for Pakistanis, this segment is also very popular. Aap Kee Raey (Your Opinion) goes on air right after News Views.

ADABI WORKSHOP

As its name tells, this literary segment is hosted by the distinguished poet of North America, Javed Zaidi. What a coincident, by profession, Javed Zaidi is teaching proper English to Americans but he is a wonderful poet of Urdu. It is almost impossible if a literary person come to Houston and he or she would not attend the Adabi Workshop regardless from Pakistan or India. But the basic purpose of this segment is to provide an outlet to all the talent, famous or infamous. There are no restrictions on the language of the literature either, could be Sindhi, Gujrati, Punjabi or English. The main idea behind is to promote the Pakistani culture with reference to its literary aspects and blend it into the generation which is born and raised here in North America.

ISLAM AUR MODERN DUNYA

A very well known and admiring persona of Houston, Dr. Syed Mohammed Khalique is the host of this segment. He is not a Molvi. By profession he is a retired medical doctor but with a charisma of unbelievable communication skill that touches the hearts of people. In this segment, religious issues are discussed in a way that you do not feel that some preacher is trying to teach you. By using every day examples, he tells you about the Islamic applications, compare to other religions. It would not be wrong to call it a comparative study segment. To keep it interesting for the young generation, time to time, Quranic references are quoted in English and format is kept Urdu-English bilingual.

LIVE INTERVIEWS

This is the segment that has no fixed time and day. Generally, whenever there is an event in town, we do the interview of the participating performer/artist/player/politician, either from Pakistan, India, other city of USA or in the studio. If in studio, people call and greet them and ask for a little piece of their performance on air. We have a long list of these interviews in our ABOUT US section to see. These interviews are an unscheduled surprise part of our live broadcast since they are very unpredictable. During those interviews, insertions and clips of their performances make it more interesting. Pretty soon recorded interviews will be compiled under the category of Young Trang Archives, for your pleasure.
